Details
- Lycopersicon esulentum
- Open-Pollinated: yes
- Type: indeterminate
- Shape: typical tomato shape; labeled as a slicing tomato, but each year mine are no bigger than a large cherry tomato
- Color: pale yellow with a pink blush; matte finish, so it looks like peach fuzz
- Maturity: 80-90 days
- Size:
- 3-5 oz tomatoes, per seed packet
- 1/2 oz in my garden
- Yield: I get about 1/2 lb from each plant
- Taste:
- “memorably sweet with a bit of tartness”
- good flavor
- sweet tasting
- Disease Resistance or Environmental Tolerance:
- susceptible to fusarium & verticillium wilts*
- thin skin cracks easily with too much water or rain
Notes:
- *grafted on Supernatural rootstock made it resistant to the fungal wilts present in my garden soil, and it had the best production that I’ve ever seen in 5 years of growing this variety
- sprawling plant with 6-8 tomatoes per tress
- abundant phosphorous needed for early yields
- harvest mature tomatoes while still firm
Sources: (where to buy)
- Seeds of Change (no longer carried)
- Cross Country Nurseries
- may be the same as “Wapsipinicon” sold by Seed Savers Exchange
Results from My Garden:
- 2009: Notes: good production; loved the color and texture – almost translucent and slightly peach-colored; much smaller than expected, but good flavor
- 2011: flourished early-on, but wilted in July, then again in September (probably Verticillium), then died in October
- 2012: took off earlier than the other plants and grew massive; mid- to late-July it started wilting; was mostly dead by August
- 2014: grafting was definitely a success with this cultivar. Used Supernatural rootstock from Territorial Seed Co.
